Dr. James E. Bellis, Sr., 89, loving husband of Arlene Shick Bellis, entered the presence of his Savior on Saturday, January 9, 2016.
Born in Natchez, Mississippi, "Jim" was the son of the late Adam Earl and Anna Oglesby Bellis.
He served in the U.S.Navy during WWII before attending Bob Jones University where he earned a doctorate. He ministered as a beloved professor for 50 years in the School of Religion.
He pastored two churches in Georgia, Jackson Baptist and Poplar Springs, where he shepherded those he loved as family for more than 50 years.
Surviving in addition to his wife are four children: James Bellis, Jr. (Debra) of Joelton, TN; Jeanne Gerard (Phillip) and Judy Perecko (Rick) of Greenville, SC; and Jan Schenk (Brad) of Myrtle Beach, SC; fourteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Charles Bellis, and sister, Mildred Britt.
Dr. Bellis is at The Mackey Mortuary where the family will receive friends Friday, January 15, from 1:00 to 2:15p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 2:30p.m. with Pastor David Yearick officiating.
The committal will be private.
