

James Frederick “Jim” Dickenson, 86, of Greenville, SC, died September 7, 2015. Born in Harlan, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Fred and Mary Forester Dickenson. He received his bachelor’s degree from University of Kentucky and Masters of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary. During his career, he served as Minister for Presbyterian Church U.S.A. in Fairmont, NC, Dillon, SC, and Athens, GA, Executive Coordinator of Synod of Southeast, Vice President for Financial Development for Presbyterian College, and Vice President for Development and Seminary Relations for Columbia Theological Seminary. After retiring in 1992, he consulted in the fields of fund-raising and management.
Jim and Janice Dickenson shared 40 very special years together residing in Clinton, SC, Atlanta, GA and Greenville SC. Their marriage served as an example of a loving relationship to their children and grandchildren. He was a man of great dignity and concern for world situations. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and brother who took immense interest and pride in each member of his family. He committed himself to his work in the ministry and for leading development initiatives for his church and for non-profit organizations. Jim always had great interest in current technologies, always keeping up with the most current versions of computers and phones and was sorry he would miss out on future innovations.
Rev. Dickenson is survived by his devoted wife Janice Scott Dickenson, daughter, Debbie Gray (Barry) of Spartanburg, son Lee Dickenson (Shawna) of Roswell, GA, son Kirk Smith (Jayne) of Athens, GA, and daughter Angie Cain (Lee) of Watkinsville, GA. Seven grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; Meghan Lindquist (Brett) and their children Spencer and Mallory, Katie Kosmann (Jason), Meredith Dickenson, Matt, Andy, and Zach Gray, and Graham Cain. Three siblings, David Dickenson (Jeannette), Ruth Flaherty; and John Dickenson (Melanie).
The memorial service will be held on Friday, September 11 at 11am in the Harper Prayer Chapel, First Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Dr. Richard Gibbons officiating. Visitation to follow in the Chapel Narthex. The family will have a private committal ceremony at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
