Surrounded by family, James (Jim) Robert Judd went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, December 7, 2025 in Greenville, South Carolina. He lived a full and beautiful life for 89 years, a beloved husband, father, brother, grandpa and great grandpa.
Jim was born in Ilion, NY, on October 5, 1936 to the late Clifford Judd and Muriel Dodge, the oldest of four; Craig, Christopher, and Prudence. He graduated from West Canada Valley Central School in 1954, and Ithaca College in 1959. A year after graduating, he began his service in the Army (1960 - 1963) as a Physical Therapist and Crypto Specialist, stationed in Washington D.C. and South Korea. He continued to serve in the Army Reserves, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1987. He worked as a Physical Therapist in New York, Colorado, Nebraska, Indiana, and South Carolina until his retirement in 2012.
He served his community in many ways, including his years on the Beaver River School Board in Upstate New York, as well as through active involvement in his local churches. He married Mary Terwilliger in Delmar, NY, on June 9, 1962, and together they raised five wonderful sons: Robert, William, Mark, David, and Michael. Jim lived life to the fullest. He cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren, who now hold countless fond memories and stories of his constant and loving presence. He enjoyed repairing their family home, hiking, camping, and, after retirement, traveling with Mary—including cruises and memorable trips to Switzerland, Austria, and destinations across the United States.
He is predeceased by his parents Clifford and Muriel Judd and brothers Craig and Christopher Judd. He is survived by his sister Prudence (John) Christopher, Kidder, MO: his children, Robert C. Judd (Alison) of Greenville; William (Bill) A. Judd (Charleen) of Greenville; Mark J. Judd of Greenville; David A. Judd (Dawn) of Greenville (currently Clermont-Ferrand, France); and Michael L. Judd (Jeanna) of Lowville NY; six grandchildren, Andrew (Katie) Judd of Asheville, NC; Rachael Judd, Chandler Judd and Pressley Judd of Greenville; Mackenzie Judd and Caleb Judd of Lowville, NY; and one great-grandchild, Amelia Noone of Greenville; his sister-in-laws Mary Carney Judd (Chris) of Mohawk, NY and Beverly Judd (Craig) of Brighton, CO; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jim lived and loved well; a faithful husband, amazing father and an adored grandfather and great grandfather. He was a great mentor to his five boys, six grandchildren and one great granddaughter, as exemplified by his quiet demeanor, smiling positive attitude, and love of God and life.
Jim’s Memorial Service will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026 at 10:00 am at North Hills Church, Taylors, SC. Interment will follow with military honors at the Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery in Anderson, SC. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to North Hills Church or Greenville Area Parkinson's Society.
