Janice is survived by her son, Thomas, her brother David Glenn, her niece and nephew, Nealy and Brody Glenn. She is predeceased by her mother, Dorothy, and father Carl Glenn.
Janice graduated from Parker High School in 1962. After her graduation from Furman University in 1967, she joined the Defense Intelligence Agency in Washington, D.C., where she met and married Thomas Hall Shugart, Jr. (deceased).
Janice was a devoted mother who enjoyed music, reading, and travel. She lived a fulsome life and was a successful career professional. As a U.S. Foreign Service spouse, she supported her husband’s diplomatic postings to Brazil, Germany, Washington, DC, Canada, and Colorado. Her marriage ended amicably in Houston, Texas, where she raised her son and started a successful career in title insurance, mortgage banking, and professional staffing. She was a proud mother to her son Tom, a career Navy Submarine Officer and Navy Captain, as well as her daughter-in-law, an Army Judge Advocate and Lieutenant Colonel. Janice was a very spiritual woman and was involved in many church activities, singing for decades in several different Episcopal Church choirs as well as working as a professional organist. Three years ago, she returned to Greenville to live closer to her son, brother, family and friends, and while she was here adopted her faithful canine companion, Benji. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
A small family funeral service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on June 15, 2020 at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Greenville, SC. The service will be available to view on Facebook after the ceremony. Any donations may be made to the Greenville Humane Society ( https://www.greenvillehumane.com/make-a-donation/ ).
