Jean Mathews
Greenville
On September 30, 2015, Jean Culverhouse Mathews was lifted from the mixture of happiness, sorrow, and pain of this world to the thrill of everlasting life with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
In addition to maintaining a lovely home, Jean worked for years as an office manager for Copy Cat Printing Co. in Greenville, SC. She served in numerous positions in numerous Southern Baptist churches in her life and delighted in finding ways to serve the Lord. Jean was a member of Pelham Rd Baptist Church for the past 15 years.
Jean was an energetic bundle of joy who delighted in her family and many friends. She had a bold and adventurous spirit, best exemplified by the backpacking trip she and her husband made through Europe - not in their twenties, but rather they were in their sixties!!
In addition to travel, Jean also enjoyed a multitude of other hobbies, including cooking delicious meals, entertaining, calligraphy, painting with watercolors, collecting Christmas stamps, and gardening. Jean's gorgeous garden was a reflection of the beauty of her redeemed soul.
The daughter of the late Clarence Culverhouse and Maggie Richards, Jean was a truly gracious southern lady. She devoted her time and life to making a beautiful and warm home for her beloved husband of 64 years, Wayne, and also for her three sons, Michael, Gary, and Dennis. A brother and his wife, Richard and Nancy Inmon of Florida; and a nephew, Rick Inmon, all of whom survive her and will miss her greatly. She was predeceased by a brother, Phillip Inmon and his wife Elizabeth.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, October 5, 2015 in the sanctuary of Pelham Road Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 P.M. Monday, prior to the service at the church.
All of us who love Jean sorrow that she is gone from us, but we rejoice that she is now free from the betrayal and indignities that age confers on us all. We look forward to the day when we will be as she is now - strong, beautiful, and worshiping God for eternity.
