John Alan Carter, 55, of Greenville, South Carolina peacefully went to be with our Heavenly Father on March 29, 2021. He was the son of the late, Joseph Kenneth Carter, and is survived by his mother, Charlotte Taylor Carter.
He is survived by his loving wife, Adrienne Drake Carter, his high school sweetheart with whom he shared 35 years of marriage. Additionally, he is survived by his two daughters, Austen Carter, and Morgan Carter Mason (Wesley Mason), both of Greer, South Carolina. John was blessed with three grandchildren, Andrew Craig, Riley Mason, and Peyton Mason whom he loved dearly. Also surviving him is his sister, Julie L. Carter, and his three brothers, Joseph “Kenny” Carter Jr. (Vera “Bebe” Wooten Carter), Robert “Andy” Carter (Deborah Hunt Carter), and Leonard “Clay” Carter (Kristie Porter Carter). John is also survived by eleven nieces and nephews and six great-nieces and great-nephews.
John graduated from Eastside High School in 1983 and later earned his Bachelor’s of Liberal Arts degree in accounting from Furman University in 2011.
Following in his father’s footsteps, John carried two passions. First was his passion for serving his family. He took pride in preparing family meals and continuing family fellowship with the “Carter Sunday Lunch” tradition from his childhood. Second was his passion and skill in working in the automotive industry. John opened his own shop, Anderson Auto, Electric, and Marine in Anderson, South Carolina where he worked until he took over ownership of his father’s shop, Taylor’s Auto Electric in 1999. Even in recent years, prior to his passing, John continued to enjoy tinkering with cars and golf carts. He was well known at the Carolina Golf Club at Botany Woods where he was the “golf cart guru”.
John’s love of life was apparent to all who knew him. He always had a kind word or a smile for everyone he met, and he was ready and willing to lend a helping hand at a moment’s notice. He considered all of his friends to be part of his extended family.
John was a fervent believer and member of Brushy Creek Baptist Church. His family takes solace in the hope promised that they will one day be celebrating alongside John in Heaven.
A memorial service will be held at Brushy Creek Baptist Church in Taylors, South Carolina on Thursday, April 1, 2021, at 11:30 am. The family will receive visitors immediately following the service in The Lobby at Brushy Creek until 1:30pm.
A graveside burial service will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park at 2:00pm. Donations on John’s behalf may be made to Upstate Community Hospice House, 260 Fairwinds Drive, Landrum, SC 29356.
