It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our family’s heart and soul, Le Anna Glover Browning. She was David’s beloved wife, her children’s cherished mother, and her grandchildren’s adored Bà Ngoại.
Le Anna was born Lê Thị An in Vietnam. Driven by a desire to provide her children with opportunities she never had, Le Anna journeyed to the United States in 1975, leaving behind her homeland, father, and siblings. She built a new life by sheer force of will, living the definitions of determination, resilience, and perseverance. She believed the only way to achieve goals was to work hard, and she proved it repeatedly. Le Anna credited her adopted country for giving her the freedom to be successful and considered herself a true patriot.
With that American entrepreneurial spirit, Le Anna opened a childcare and dedicated over three decades to nurturing children. It is a testament to her influence that many of them stayed in touch through the years, even introducing her to their own kids. Le Anna’s combination of warmth and authority worked wonders on behavior, and many parents called her after business hours to ask for help. For example, “Mrs. Browning, if I put you on speaker, will you please tell Junior to let me buckle him into his car seat?”
In addition to her patriotism and work ethic, faith was a cornerstone of her existence. Le Anna gained strength and solace through her devotion to God. She never failed to say grace before every meal, and she held fast to the power of prayer. Le Anna found fellowship as a member of First Presbyterian Church of Greenville. She was an active participant in the Gospel Partners Sunday School class and served in several roles, including class monitor, Sunshine Care Group leader, and picture coordinator. She treasured the friendships formed there and given the outpouring of support during Le Anna’s illness, it was clear that the feeling was mutual. Her gentle spirit and kindness touched all who knew her.
Le Anna also found happiness in dancing. She enjoyed the SOAR Greer Line Dancing classes and was a member of the Carolina Shag Club. Le Anna and David were always on the dance floor at any gathering that featured music. They were perfect partners whose in-sync moves and beaming smiles drew every eye to them, and Le Anna was delighted when their dancing pictures were featured in local newspapers or on websites.
Le Anna leaves behind an enduring legacy of love, courage, and joy. She is survived by her husband, David Browning; her daughter and son-in-law, Yến Trinh and Chris Greene; her daughter, Sonja Glover; her son and daughter-in-law, James and Sabina Glover; her grandchildren, Julia Greene and James Greene; and cousins, siblings, nieces, and nephews in both Vietnam and the U.S.
While we are devastated by our loss, we are also grateful beyond measure for the honor of loving Le Anna and being loved by her.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 11th at 11 a.m. in the Harper Chapel of First Presbyterian Church in Greenville. Her family will receive visitors beforehand at 10 a.m.
