Greenville, SC
Lynn Jones Wunch peacefully left her 90-year-old body November 11, 2015 at her home in The Gardens (Assisted Living) in Greenville.
Her beautiful presence will be strongly missed by all her family and friends.
She was born LaNelle Brigham Smart in Blytheville, Arkansas in 1924, and grew up on a cotton farm with her parents (Nell and Herschel), older sister (Evelyn), and two younger brothers (Jim and Don).
As a young girl, she loved horses and climbing her favorite willow tree to escape to read her books. As a young woman, she attended one year at MSCW (Mississippi State College for Women), went on a blind date with a handsome Air Force officer named Richard Lawrence Jones (Dick) from Quincy, Mass., and was married to him three months later. WWII ended, and Lynn and Dick eventually settled in Greenville, S.C. where they raised three daughters. Lynn loved being a devoted mother and wife, neighborhood "mom", and taking care of her home on Twin Lake Rd. She was an excellent golfer, a regular bridge club player, and passionate nurturer of her azaleas. (At 91, she still talked to her flowers daily!) Most of all, though, Lynn loved to sing and dance… her whole life! Just months before she passed away, she would still get up and dance around the room when music was playing.
After 51 years together, her husband Dick passed away, and she reconnected with a wonderful man who had loved her when they dated in high school - Bill Morse of Memphis, Tenn.
Bill's wife had also passed away, and Bill and Lynn re-kindled their old friendship. Their marriage resulted in an amazing expansion of Lynn's family - now including Bill's four children and his grandchildren. Their special marriage and life in Memphis ended seven years later when Bill died of cancer.
A few years later, after moving back to Greenville, Lynn, at the age of 80, met another very kind man named Bill Wunch whose wife had passed away, and their marriage allowed Lynn's family to grow even larger with the addition of his four children and grandchildren. She always said it was just more people for her to love! After five years together, she lost Bill to cancer.
Lynn's life-long faith in God, her compassionate, resilient spirit, and the love from her family and friends helped her endure many personal challenges and heartbreaks as she aged… most recently the loss of her youngest daughter Martha to cancer. Lynn will be remembered for her gentle, loving nature, but, most of all, for her inner strength of character, her enormous generosity, and her ability to love unconditionally.
Lynn is survived by her oldest daughter Natalie Pace and husband Norman (her most faithful Greenville caregivers for the past four years); her middle daughter Cindy Wilson of Raleigh, NC; her faithful weekly visitor and flower provider step-daughter Jane Johnson; her six grandchildren - Lee Allen, Shannon Cunniffe, Stroud Honeycutt, Kathryn Pace, Jake Honeycutt, and Pryce Wilson; all Morse and Wunch family members.
Lynn has 11 beautiful great-grandchildren, all under the age of eight whom she adored. She never stopped expressing how fortunate she felt, and how proud she was of all her children and grandchildren and how full of love her heart was. And now, LaNelle Brigham Smart Jones, it's God's turn to say, "Well done, my good and faithful servant. WELCOME HOME!"
Funeral service will be held at Mackey Mortuary Chapel in Greenville, Saturday, November 21 at 11:00 AM, followed by a private committal service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army.
