

Marion David Vaughan went to be with his Lord on January 9, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 26, 1941, in Greenville, South Carolina, Marion lived a life marked by faith, dedication, and deep devotion to those he loved.
He grew up in Greenville and was a member of Laurens Road Church of God, where his spiritual foundation was formed. He played the trumpet for many years in the church band. Marion graduated from Greenville High School and immediately answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Army, reporting to Fort Jackson.
Marion spent nearly 50 years of his professional life at John D. Hollingsworth, where he served as Transportation Manager. His loyalty, work ethic, and leadership left a lasting impact on the company and all who worked with him. He was also a gifted athlete, pitching for the Hollingsworth team for many years in the Fastpitch Softball Industrial League. In addition to softball, he enjoyed bowling and remained active in sports throughout much of his life.
He was a proud member of the Greenville Masons and the Hejaz Shriners, organizations that reflected his commitment to service and fellowship.
Golf became one of Marion’s greatest passions after being introduced to the game at a young age. He loved it instantly and played throughout his life, finishing his golf journey with his cherished golf family at the Lakeview Golf Seniors. His accomplishments on the course were many, including 14 holes-in-one and a remarkable lowest score of 64. Golf was not just a sport to him, but a source of joy, friendship, and lifelong memories.
Above all, Marion’s greatest pride and joy was his family. He is survived by his sister, Shirley Osborne; his loving partner, Latha Cooper; his daughter, Beverly V. Saindon (Lee) and his son, M. David Vaughan, Jr. (Celeste) He is also survived by his grandchildren: Christopher Saindon (Ava), Cameron Saindon (Nicole), Corey Saindon (Lisa), Carson Saindon(Alexandra), Miranda V. Berggrun (James), Trevor Vaughan (Suzanna), and Marlee Vaughan. He was blessed with 14 great-grandchildren who all adored their “Papa” and brought immense happiness to his life.
Marion will be remembered for his faith, steady character, and the love he poured into his family and friends. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the example he set.
Services will be held at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn Memorial Park, located at 1 Pine Knoll Drive, Greenville, South Carolina 29609.
The family will receive friends on January 14, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
A chapel service will be held on January 15, 2026, at 12:00 pm with burial to follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
