

Marjorie "Marge" McGee Gamston, age 90, passed away on January 17, 2024 in Alpharetta, GA. She was born on September 12, 1933 in Danielsville, GA to the late Patton and Jimmie Lou McGee. Marjorie was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
Marjorie was a beautiful, hard-working, and loving woman. She described herself as an "original latch-key kid" as both her parents worked long hours in the parachute mill to support the war effort during World War II. She was a blessing to her parents as well as her four children, three step-children, 10 great-grandchildren, her friends, her neighbors, and her community. Marjorie loved God and attended church regularly throughout her life. She valued her relationships with her many cousins and friends, who adored her.
As the Supervisor of Word Processing at the School District of Greenville County for 25 years, Marjorie made a positive, life-changing impact on her employees and the educational community in Greenville. She played an instrumental role in facilitating needed curriculum and policies, as well as the establishment of educational institutions such as The Fine Arts Center of Greenville County and The Governor's School for the Arts of South Carolina. Even after retiring, Marjorie continued her love of learning by attending numerous continuing education classes at Furman University.
Marjorie had a keen love and appreciation for the arts. She regularly attended concerts and plays at various venues in Greenville, including The Greenville Little Theatre, the Warehouse Theatre, The Peace Center, and Furman University. She also expressed her pride in her country and her personal love and appreciation for the military by faithfully contributing to The Wounded Warriors and other veteran supporting organizations.
In addition to her professional and artistic pursuits, Marjorie was known for her delicious meals and hosting wonderful events for her family and friends. She lived in her home on Clarendon Avenue for 53 years until moving to Roswell, GA to be with her daughter and family in her later years. Marjorie often referred to herself as a "Georgia Girl," and she cherished her roots. Even during the final stage of her life, her sharp wit and gratitude were always evident.
Marjorie is survived by her children, Mike & Claudia Satterfield, Tim Satterfield, Mark & Jacqueline Breuker; daughter-in-law, Judi Satterfield; step-daughter, Lancee Jo Smith; grandchildren, Ross Satterfield, Danielle Satterfield, Justin & Jana Hyatt, Skylar & Whitney Satterfield, John & LeAnne Whitaker, Gamston Whitaker, James Whitaker, Harriet Whitaker, Abby Breuker, Jaime & Elizabeth Vengoechea; 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Gamston; son, Randy Satterfield; step-sons, Guy & Gary Gamston; and her parents, Patton & Jimmie Lou McGee.
Marjorie received her education from Berea Elementary School, Parker High School, and Drones Business College. She had a successful career as the Supervisor of Data Processing for the School District of Greenville County, retiring after 25 years.
Marjorie worshipped at Saint Mark United Methodist Church and Sans Souci Baptist Church.
In her free time, Marjorie enjoyed reading, sewing, writing, exercising, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends. She had a zest for life and lived it to the fullest.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, January 24th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mark United Methodist Church, located at 306 N. Franklin Road, Greenville, SC 29609. A visitation with family and friends will follow the service, along with a light lunch in the Fellowship Hall. All funeral attendees are invited to attend. The graveside service will take place at 1:00 p.m. at Greenville Memorial Gardens Cemetery, located at 7784 Augusta Road, Piedmont, SC 29673.
Flowers may be delivered to Mackey Funeral home at 311 Century Dr. Greenville, SC 29607, no later than 9:00am the morning of the service. Otherwise Saint Mark United Methodist Church would be a better option to ensure they are at the service. Or contributions may be made to St. Mark United Methodist Church or Sans Souci Baptist Church, both located in Greenville, SC, or to the Wounded Warriors of America.

Marjorie "Marge" McGee Gamston will be remembered as a beautiful, loving, and faithful woman. Her legacy will live on through her family and her community. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
