
Michael Rushton passed July 2, 2016. He was the loving husband of Maureen, his wife of 56 years. He was born in N. Staffordshire, England and graduated from Loughborough University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, followed by a post graduate degree from Imperial College London and the London School of Economics. Mike was Captain of his inter-collegiate water polo team. He was employed by Michelin for more than forty years working and living in England, Nigeria, France and the United States. He was a Chartered Engineer and a member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology. He has been a member of Thornblade Club for twenty four years and enjoyed playing with the Silverblades. For many years he volunteered at the BMW Charity golf tournaments as well as other charitable golf events. During his life he and Maureen traveled the world visiting more than seventy five countries on five continents. He is survived by his devoted wife; much loved daughter Suzanne Harper; son-in-law John Harper; precious grandsons Henry and Thomas and son-in-law Ross Snellings. He was preceded in death by his dearly loved daughter Debbie. At Mike’s request there is to be no funeral service. He asks that his family and friends raise their glass in his memory to “A life well lived.” Memorial donations may be made to the Deborah Rushton Snellings Scholarship at Hollins University, PO Box 9629, Roanoke, VA 24020.
