

Nancy Louise Harrison Owen was born July 18, 1922 in Greenville, S. C, daughter of Robert Wade Harrison and Ida Mae Southern Harrison. She graduated from Greenville High School. She and her husband, Ralph Lee Owen, Jr., had been married over 67 years when he died in 2009. She is survived by three daughters, Nancy Lee Owen Martin of North Charleston, S. C., Libba Owen King (Allen) of Mt Pleasant, SC and Treasure Cay in the Bahamas, Annette Owen Cline (Lucius) of Greenville, S. C. She is also survived by seven grandchildren who are Denise Holland (Cliff), Ty King (Carrie), Dennis Martin (Michele), Shelley Mahan (Randy), Lee Cline (Nikki), Harrison Cline (Lisa), and Emily Cline, along with 16 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Betty H. Fueyo, her sister-in-law, Norma H. Owen, and many nieces and nephews. Her sister, Dorothy H. Lohr, predeceased her. At the time of her death, she was a resident at the National Health Care of Mauldin, SC, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Greenville. She was formerly a member of Augusta Road Baptist Church. She retired as the head of Shop Stores for the Charleston Naval Shipyard in 1984, having won many awards during her service, including selection as one of the top productivity employees at the Shipyard. During her previous employment with Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company, she received awards for saving the life of a caller who was threatening suicide. Prior to moving back to Greenville, she was an active member of Ashley River Baptist Church in Charleston, SC, teaching Sunday School and playing the piano. Her life-long interest in music was highlighted by playing bass fiddle with the Greenville, SC, Spartanburg, SC, Salisbury, NC, Furman and Converse College Symphony Orchestras. She also played piano for many years for the Carter School of Dance in Salisbury, NC. At her summer home in Mountain Lake Colony, she served many years as superintendent and pianist for the summer Sunday school and as chairman of the golf committee. She also enjoyed singing with the Sweet Adelines barbershop group in Charleston, SC. Her civic contributions included president of the Sea Island Business and professional Women’s Club of Charleston, SC; organizing and chairing one of the main events for the 1970 Tricentennial Celebration in Charleston for the 300th birthday of the state; and serving on the St Andrews Council of Civic Clubs and on various committees on drug and alcohol abuse and highway safety. Visitation will be held Monday, May 21, 2012 from 6-8 pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, Mar 22, 2012 in the chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home. Following the service, the family will receive visitors at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Lucius M. Cline, III, 471 E. Parkins Mill Road; Greenville.
