

Born on May 7, 1936, in Gulfport, Mississippi, to Frank and Elsie Lull, Nancy was raised in Meridian, Mississippi, where her strong foundation of faith, compassion, and grace first took root.
A devoted student and lifelong learner, Nancy graduated from Birmingham-Southern College with a degree in Education. She went on to touch countless young lives during her many years as an elementary school teacher in Huntsville, Alabama. Her gentle spirit and joyful approach to learning shaped generations of students who remembered her not only as a teacher, but as a mentor, encourager, and friend.
After retirement, Nancy moved to her “happy place,” Beacon Hill, Florida, where she made wonderful friends and created cherished memories. She truly embraced every season of life with joy, curiosity, and gratitude. Her faith remained her steady anchor, guiding her in all things.
Nancy loved big. She was kind, generous, and always put others first. She had the gift of hospitality and was a wonderful cook—sharing her meals, her home, and her heart with everyone who crossed her path. She loved to travel and leaves behind a legacy of love, humor, and unforgettable memories. Her life was lived with purpose, grace, and deep appreciation for the people around her.
Nancy was preceded in death by her beloved parents and by her devoted husband, Earl W. Smith, with whom she shared a beautiful life of love and partnership.
Nancy is survived by her sister Jean Lull Watson, her children: Frank Lull Striplin, Anna Striplin Miller (Paul); her stepchildren Earl Smith (Rose), Linda Smith Perry (Michael), and Julie Smith Johnson (Ron). She cherished her grandchildren: Garrett Hill (Mary Louise), Holmes Hill, Kristyna and Samantha Striplin, Jason Smith, Jennifer Smith, Stephanie Overby,Michael Powell, Nichole Reynolds, Gaby Powell, Cissy Baldwin, Ian, Collin and Lauren Miller ; as well as eleven great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her tremendous joy.
Nancy’s family extends heartfelt gratitude to Foothills Hospice for their loving and attentive care.
Her life was a gift of love, laughter, and joyful moments we will cherish forever.
A Celebration of Life will be held on January 3 at 3:00 PM at St. Paul’s Church, 304 Camperdown Way, Greenville, SC 29601. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul’s Church, Miracle Hill, Samaritan’s Purse, or a charity of your choice.
