Mrs. Nellie D. Burton, 86, of Greenville, South Carolina transitioned to heaven on Thursday, August 20, 2020 at McCall Hospice House in Simpsonville, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Esley Gowens and Sylvenia Richardson Gowens.
She was a good and faithful servant of the Lord. Mrs. Burton was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church for over 70 years, a member of Ward Club number one, and was a primary Sunday School teacher and served on the kitchen committee, as well as a volunteer for the Girl Scouts.
Mrs. Burton retired from E.D. Dixon where she worked in the nursery and kindergarten.
Mrs. Burton leaves loving memories of her children: Rebecca Burton of Greenville, SC, Shirley Rice of Charlotte, NC, Robert Sylvester Burton of Greenville, SC and Anthony “Tony” Burton of Greenville, SC; seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Jackie “Butch” Gowens (Gloria); a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends, as well as a special cousin, Billy Richardson and sister-in-law Jeanette Richardson. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Burton, Jr. and a daughter, Lillian Joyce Burton-Dowdy.
Visitation will be held Monday, August 24, 2020 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Mackey Funerals & Cremations at Century Drive.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, August 25 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 400 South Hudson Street. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Piedmont SC.
The family has requested for guests to please wear a face covering for all services.
