Patricia Boland Wood, 89, died April 7 at her Spring Park residence in Travelers Rest. Patricia was born in Greenville to Bennie Lee and Mattie Willie Boland on July 11, 1935, and was the 13th of their 14 children. She married James Wood in 1961, and their happy marriage lasted until his death in 2017.
Pat worked as a secretary and bookkeeper. After her retirement she volunteered for many years at Magnolia Manor Senior Living. She knew many residents and their families intimately and often sat with the dying.
Pat had no children of her own, but she had 26 nieces and nephews and loved them all dearly. She was the fun, crazy aunt who took us to the drive-in movies in her convertible and bought us milkshakes on shopping trips. She seemed to know everyone in town and flirted shamelessly with her “sweethearts” as she went about her daily excursions. She was a great storyteller and a fan of marathon phone conversations. At Spring Park, she made close friends among the staff and many of them adored her and brought their children to meet her. She will be missed very much by her friends and family.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 31, at Springwood Cemetery, 410 N Main St, Greenville, SC 29601 at 9:30 am with a reception afterward.
