Peggy Ellison Good died on August 1, 2024, after a courageous struggle with pulmonary fibrosis. Born on September 27, 1945, in Anderson, SC to the late John and Mary Ellison, Peggy lived a life devoted to others.
Peggy is survived by her husband of 57 years, Paul Edwin Good, Jr. (Ed) and her sons Paul Edwin Good, III (Carol Ann), John Matthew Good (Krista), and Jonathan Allen Good (Julie), and grandchildren Beau, Ann-Grayson, Arabella, Emma, Libby, Molly, Jake, Wesa, and Charlie. She is also survived by sisters Jane Milford, Judi Rushton (Jim), a cousin living in the home Fred Wood (Sandy) and numerous nieces, nephews, and their children.
Peggy graduated from Wade Hampton High School (valedictorian) and earned degrees from Furman (magna cum laude), and UNC-Chapel Hill. She and Ed began their life together as schoolteachers in North Carolina and Georgia prior to settling in Greenville.
Peggy was a member of First Baptist Church and served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and missions leader. In the 1990s, she led the church’s after-school tutoring program in the Viola Street neighborhood helping many children and providing service opportunities for church members. At Viola Street, Peggy met Jowanna Shutes whom she mentored into adulthood and loved like a daughter.
Peggy cherished her involvement with Furman, receiving the Donaldson Medal as the outstanding female graduate of her class (1967), the Blackwell Alumni Service Award (2006), member of the Board of Trustees (2000-2006), and fundraiser for various campaigns. She co-chaired fundraising efforts for endowment funds for the Lilly Center for Theological Exploration of Vocation, now known as Cothran Center, a program that continued to remain very special to her.
Peggy was fluent in French and loved to travel to France with her friends and family. She met her “French daughter”, Francoise Guenon in 1985 as an exchange student. They remained close and had many wonderful times together.
Peggy was affectionally known as “Bamma” to her grandchildren and treasured sleepovers, scavenger hunts, and family trips to Litchfield Beach, Doubletop Mountain, and National Parks. She played tennis for over 60 years and made many friends with teams from Dove Tree, Thornblade, and the Kroc Center.
We would like to thank all our family and friends for your prayerful support over the past few years. And a special thank you to the nurses from Browning Geriatric Services.
A service of remembrance will be held at First Baptist Greenville, 847 Cleveland Street on Sunday, August 11th at 3 PM. Visitation will be held immediately following in the Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, please consider gifts to First Baptist Greenville, Furman University’s Cothran Center, or the charity of your choice.
