

Dr. Philip Snell, 74, of Mauldin passed away on Wednesday, September 5 after suffering a stroke. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the Rev. Dr. Clyde and Mrs. Irene Reader Snell. A graduate of Bates College and Albany Medical School, he served honorably in the Air Force in the 1960s, where he developed a lifelong love of aviation. He was an amateur pilot for more than 40 years. Dr. Snell moved from NY to SC in 1972 to become the Assoc. Director of the Family Practice Residency Program for the Greenville Hospital System. He then founded Mountain View Family Practice in Greer with two of his former students in 1979. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Mrs. Linda M. Snell and two children from a previous marriage: his son, the Rev. Jeffrey Snell and his wife Jennifer Barz, and his daughter, Mrs. Jennifer Love and her husband Timothy, all of Salem, MA. In addition he leaves behind two stepchildren, Mrs. Alesia Cannon and her husband Peter of Boiling Springs, and Mr. Wade Cooper and his wife Amy of Chesnee. He also leaves behind his one sister, Mrs. Dorothy Howald of Asheville, NC, and many extended family members. He is survived by a total of 12 grandchildren. A memorial service has been scheduled on Fri, Sep 28 at 2 PM at Cornerstone Church, 2701 Wade Hampton Blvd, Greenville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cornerstone Church.
