

Born on September 14, 1930 to Wade Merriman and Bessie Allen Rudisil Lowman, she was raised in Northfork, West Virginia and graduated from Northfork High School.
Ramona continued her education at Bob Jones University in Greenville SC. While teaching in Winchester, Virginia, she took extensive courses from the University of Virginia. She graduated from Radford State College (now Radford University) in Radford, Virginia and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education with a minor in English. Later in the state of South Carolina, she received her Masters of Education in Teaching.
She taught third through seventh grades, worked with counseling, served on drug committees, worked with the young emotionally disturbed, deaf children and special education. Her favorite age to teach was Jr. High students.
Ramona was named in the 1992 registry Who’s Who Among Teachers in America and she was invited to teach summer courses at the university of Beijing, China concerning her teaching methods and discipline.
She was also honored by the Spartanburg District for being asked by the American Institute of Foreign Study (AIFS) to lead a group from Greenville/Spartanburg area in its summer program which included observing the Sound of Music as it was presented in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
Ramona retired in January 2009 after teaching school for 49 years in both Virginia and South Carolina. During her retirement she enjoyed collecting antiques, watching football, and travelling to some of her favorite places in the world, Austria being her favorite place to visit. Ramona was known for bringing her friends, fresh seasonal fruit from her local South Carolina. She was also a member of Morningside Baptist Church where she served as a greeter.
Ramona is preceded in death by her siblings, Robert Lowman, Raymond (Doris) Lowman, Charlie Lowman, Maxine Feiglay, Jackie McCain, Billie Jean Simmons, and Marietta Peters as well as two nephews Ronnie Lowman, Dennis Lowman and her dearest earthly friend Hazel Claire Riley.
A graveside service for Ramona will be held in Woodlawn Memorial Park on Saturday, October 21st at 11:00am.
