Rebecca Reid Gregg

She is predeceased by her husband Donald Gregg, MD. She is survived by her children, Daniel Gregg (Derrell Moore), David Gregg, MD, (Jessica Sibley, MD), Jennifer Cobb (Lee Cobb), and Renata Eduardo (“adopted” Brazilian daughter); four grandchildren, Cameron Gregg, Malik McNeil, Timothy Cobb and Trinity Cobb; Brother William Reid (Rita) and nephews; Phillip Reid, Mike Reid, Danny Reid and Andy Reid.

Becky taught high school science for 17 years and was beloved by her students. She sponsored the Beta Club, a national student honors organization with a strong community service and leadership mission. She remained dedicated to public education throughout her life: she was active in her children’s schools’ fundraising efforts after leaving teaching, and she served with her late husband as co-PTA president at Sevier Middle School. She also served on the Board of Visitors for her Alma Mater, the University of Montevallo.

She loved gemstones, genealogy, and good reads, particularly murder mysteries and espionage thrillers. She always had a special place in her heart for strays of all shapes and sizes. Becky was an active supporter of the Humane Society. She had a profound and generous heart for those around her in need and was a mother figure to many more people than just her three children. Becky also had an uncanny ability to cultivate plants and bring orchids back to life with her green thumb.

Although she struggled with chronic health issues in her later years, she tried to stay active in her living community as best she could by teaching other residents about geology, horticulture, and starting the book swap.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Humane Society in the name of Rebecca, “Becky,” Gregg.

Friends and family may pay their respects on Thursday, March 18, 2021 from 5:30 PM to until 7:30 PM at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Century Drive, 311 Century Drive, Greenville, SC 29607.
