Born in Crofton, KY, he was the son of the late Rex E. and Cecyl Johnson Payne.
Rex was a graduate of the University of Akron and served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member and deacon of Faith Baptist Church of Taylors.
Surviving, in addition to his wife Laura of 62 years, are his children: sons, Rex E. Payne III of Massillon, OH; Brad A. Payne (Buffie) of Greenville, and daughter, Rela Biagiotti (Tim), of Easley; sister, Wanda M. Lane, of Franklin, IN; 7 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Thursday, November 29, 2018, at 2pm at Faith Baptist Church with Pastor John Monroe officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:30 until 2pm.
A private internment service will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Faith Baptist Mission Fund or Hidden Treasure Christian School at 500 W Lee Rd., Taylors SC 29687.
