Margaret - I'm so sorry to hear of this - have only "known" Rex the past couple years--via the internet/e-mail, he kindly "allowed" me to enjoy the High School newsletter where I "coulda been" a 1960 grad.  From my correspondence with him, I could tell he was a fine gentleman.

Margaret, I was so sorry to hear that we lost Rex. He was one of our treasured authors and a wonderful friend of the Old Buncombe County Genealogy Society. Rex was rhe "Spirit" , the cheerleader of the LHEHS Class of 1958. His effort united us as never before!  His wonderful newsletters kept us in touch and informed about our classmates. He will so be missed. He was my classmate, my friend, my supporter. He will be so missed!!!

I just found out about Rex. My heart is broken.  I met cousin Rex at the Silver reunion in 2002. What a wonderful historian he was. I treasure all his books and reference them quite often. He left behind a treasured legacy of family stories and history.  Heaven received a beautiful "Silver Thread" when he left us.

One of the  measures of us all as humans is we leave this world better than we found it. Rex did this and to do it he needed you with him. He and I were Vets and brothers in Christ, I will miss him and may God be with you during this time.

Dear Margaret,

You have been in my thoughts and prayers and will continue to be.  This is indeed a sad time for Rex's countless friends.  He was a special person who touched the lives of all who have known him over the years.  This is apparent in his dedication to keeping school friends in touch with each other and his devotion to the people -  relatives and others - in Western North Carolina. Rex was great guy, good at keeping in touch, and keeping us updated on our lives and what we all have been doing in our senior years. He will be truly missed.

I was very shocked and saddened to learn about the passing of Rex.  I will miss him and his newsletters and the too few conversations about old times at Lee Edwards. I am sure that all who knew him will also miss him very, very much.

Margaret and family, I am so shocked and sad to hear about Rex's passing. We have been good email buddies for a long time. He did so much for the class of '58 what a great writer. The newsletter kept us all together. He was a great help to my brother, Jerry, with the class of '60. His time and talent was truly loved by all. He will be missed by many but we can rejoice that he is with God and no longer having so many health issues. He was a real trooper and loved you, his children and grandchildren so much. Margaret and family, I especially missed Rex yesterday, the 20th, when he has visited us every month for almost 10 years with laughter and fun and example of service to others. Rex won't ever be absent since he left us a legacy of words. Thanks be to God for his life.

If there was anyone that was ever a true servant of his classmates, keeping everyone posted on what was going in people's lives, it was Rex. He was a spiritual giant and heaven has gained an angel.
