

He was born December 17, 1937 in Greenville, South Carolina. He was the son of Dr. Job Hughey Crooks of Pomaria, South Carolina and Edith Wilde Crooks of Budapest, Hungary.
He was a graduate of Greenville High School, class of 1955. He finished Furman University in three years then graduated from the Medical College of South Carolina in 1962. He did his Residency in Dermatology at Baylor College of Medicine. He served as a Captain in the United States Air Force Medical Corps. Dr. Crooks practiced Dermatology in Greenville for over 40 years.
He is survived by his sister, Renee Crooks Middleton and her husband, Alfred Middleton, nephews Stephen Middleton (Elizabeth) and Michael Middleton (Mel), and niece Lieshe Middleton Lane (Dustan). Great nephews Sam Middleton, Benjamin Middleton, and Hampton Lane, and great nieces Harper Middleton, Mary Michael Middleton, and Edie Grady.
Dick was a lifelong member of Buncombe Street United Methodist Church. He taught youth Sunday School and served on the Board of Stewards and Property Committee. He brought countless friends into the church on Sunday mornings, wanting all to share in the joy of the Lord.
A member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity at Furman University, he served as the Fraternity Alumni Advisor for many years. As “Doc”, he impacted many young lives as a mentor, friend and father figure. He was presented the highest national alumni awards, including the Order of the Lion.
A man of great integrity and overflowing generosity, the epitome of “love thy neighbor.” His brilliant mind loved to learn, and he shared that knowledge with us. He wanted all to delight in the beauty and wonders of nature. Those he touched stayed in his life, and we will all carry our precious memories of a life well and fully lived. T
The family will receive friends at the Poinsett Club Friday, September 29, 2017 from 4:00-6:30 pm. Funeral services will be Sunday, October 1, 2017, 2:00 pm at Buncombe Street United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Buncombe Street United Methodist Church (traditional music ministry), 200 Buncombe Street, Greenville, SC 29601.
