Richard (Rick) James Schosky, born May 20, 1964, in Erie, PA, passed away suddenly at his home on December 30, 2024, at the age of 60. A role model in living a quality life as a husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend to many, Rick was always willing to help others in their time of need.
Rick spent his early 19 years in Beaver, PA, where his most memorable event was winning the 1981 state football championship as the center for the Beaver Bobcats, wearing #53. After attending Westminster College on a football scholarship, he chose to join his late Uncle Kaesgen at Modern Tool & Die (MTD) in Cleveland, OH, to become a journeyman tool & die maker. After working at Stamco & Atlantic Tool & Die, he opened Quality Tooling Systems in Medina, OH, in 1998. Post-9/11 auto industry struggles prompted a move to Taylors, SC, in 2004, where he owned Heritage Home Inspections and then continued his servant leadership skills and mechanical expertise as Furman University’s Director of Facilities for the last 18 yrs.
Rick had a passion for Steelers football, hunting for 12-point bucks, HD motorcycles, gunsmithing, ballistics & reloading, cooking, and “smoking the meats” for family gatherings around the backyard pool, which brought him immense pleasure.
Rick is survived by his cherished wife of 35 years, Cheryl Schosky (née Hess); son Richard Schosky of Atlanta, GA; daughters Jennifer (Skylar) Miller of Taylors, SC, and Meredith (Brantley) Wiggins of Walterboro, SC; son Joseph Schosky of Greenville, SC; Papa Rick to Kylynn and Oliver Wiggins.
Rick was the son of Judith and the late Richard Schosky of Greenwood, SC: brother to Stephanie (Brad) Arbutina (née Schosky) of Beaver, PA; Son-in-law to Robert and Mary Louise Hess of Strongsville, OH, Brother-in-law to Mark (Hyldee), Scott (deceased), Ron, and Tim (Candy). Uncle to 3 nieces and 3 nephews. He was best lifelong friends with Brad, David, Dickie, Matt, Patrick, Paul, and Ted, along with many other relatives.
The funeral mass will be 12:00 p.m. Saturday, January 4th, 2025, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, located at 1209 Brushy Creek Rd, Taylors, SC 29687. A reception for all to honor Rick will follow at Furman University's Younts Conference Center, located at 3300 Poinsett Highway, Greenville, SC 29613. He will rest in peace in a columbarium. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers that memorial donations be made to Furman University at this link: Furman.edu/clearly-furman/donate.
