Robert Lynn Houpt

Robert Houpt, age 62, of Greenville, SC, went home to be with the Lord, August 11, 2023. Originally from Corning, NY, he was born on November 4, 1960 to James and Annette Houpt. When he was eight years old, Robert accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. After graduating from Corning-Painted Post West High School in 1978, Robert later earned a Bachelors degree in Bible and a Masters degree in Pastoral Studies from Bob Jones University. In 1992, he was ordained to the Gospel ministry of Christ.

The Lord provided Robert with several opportunities to serve Him, of which included assistant pastor of a Korean-American church in Greenville, pastor in Bainbridge, Georgia, and interim pastor in Wrens, Georgia.

Robert worked at Bob Jones University for thirty-one years, first as a dairy herdsman at their farm, then later in their Facilities Management department as a roofer. He attended Freedom Baptist Church in Greenville.

Robert enjoyed DIY projects and World War II history. His favorite football teams were the Greenbay Packers and the Arkansas Razorbacks. His primary interest was reading and studying God’s Word, averaging reading it in completion four times each year.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years Vicki, daughters Micahlyn of Greenville and Adrienne (Daniel) Bendzinski of Torrington, CT, sister Roberta Button of North Chili, NY, brother Charles (Lisa) of St. Cloud, FL, nieces Kathleen Button of North Chili, NY, Shelby (Scott) Venters of St. Cloud, FL, Chelsey (Hunter) White of Beaufort, SC, nephew Tom Button of North Chili, NY, brother in-law David McDonough of Corning, NY, and several great nephews and great niece.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents James and Annette and sister Carol McDonough.

Services for Robert will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Mackey Funerals and Cremations, 311 Century Dr. Greenville, South Carolina 29607. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM followed by the funeral at 12:00 PM. Burial will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 1 Pine Knoll Dr. Greenville, South Carolina 29609.
