

Born in Greer, SC on Sept. 21, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Bertha Lee and Roy Edward Goodson, the third oldest of six children.
She attended Greenville Sr. High School and after graduation, she worked in the Dunean Textile Mill for 16 years inspecting cloth. In 1961, she married her husband, Kenneth Robert Mitchell, of the U.S. Air Force.
The family relocated many times as a military family. Beginning in S.C. then moving to Savannah, Ga, Colton, Ca, Dover, De, Springfield, Ill and back to Greenville, S.C., where Ken retired after 23 years of service. Sarah enjoyed many holidays back home again with her mother, sisters and their families.
In 1983, she went to work for the Greenville County School System at Mauldin High School and worked in the school office or as a teachers aid for 10 years.
Sarah was blessed with a great sense of humor and many creative talents that she enjoyed sharing with others. She and husband, Ken, operated an antique store for many years. Ken loved to shop for the furniture and Sarah had her own side business called LovLee Gifts. She created beautiful wreaths and arrangements, and merchandised them with the antiques.
Sarah’s husband Ken passed away in 1994 at the age of 65.
She was a member of Dunean Baptist Church, volunteered for many years with the Mauldin High School Band and was a member of the Mauldin Rotary Club.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Melissa Mitchell and Rick Turnipseed of Carrollton, Ga; her daughter Cindy Mitchell of Greer; and sisters Edith Hudgins of Sumter, Ruby Kelley of Simpsonville and Fran Paris of Greenville. She was preceded in death by brother Ed Goodson and sister Pat Greene.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 24 at 2:00 pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home, Greenville, SC followed by the service at 3:30 pm in the chapel at Woodlawn, officiated by Rev. Gene Lockaby and Dr. Calvin Holland. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Friends and family are invited to meet at the home of Ruby and Jack Kelley, 1508 Neely Ferry Rd. Simpsonville at 11:30 am on April 24.
