

Scott Alan Ruby, a dedicated husband, father, brother, grandfather (Opa), extended family member, friend and retired professional at Fluor Corporation passed away on January 29, 2025, at the age of 69. He was known for his unwavering commitment to his work, his generous spirit, deep love for his family and faith in Christ through service to his church and community.
Scott was born on July 26, 1955, in Fresno, California. He graduated from Fresno State University in 1980 with a degree in Civil Engineering and went on to have a successful career at Fluor Corporation for 34 years. He retired as Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Greenville Campus for Group Operations, Industrial and Infrastructure, where he was respected by colleagues and admired for his leadership, mentorship and building effective teams.
Outside of work, Scott was an active member of his church, Messiah Lutheran Church in Mauldin, serving as Financial Secretary and a member of the Property Team. A long-time member of Thornblade Club in Greer, he served on the Finance Committee and enjoyed playing golf. In the community, he served as an advisor on multiple boards, including the Greenville International Airport Board of Appeals, Greenville County United Way Board of Trustees, Peace Center Board of Trustees, Dean’s Strategic Council at the Engineering School at the University of South Carolina, South Carolina Governors School for Science and Mathematics, Committee for Leadership South Carolina and Treasurer of Sugar Mill Homeowners Association. He was active in the community in his volunteer work with local charities such as Habitat for Humanity and Project Hope Soup Kitchen. He was a loving husband to his wife, Denise of 47 years, and a devoted father to his children, Michael and Monica. He enjoyed traveling the world and living in foreign countries on assignment for Fluor. At home, he enjoyed gardening, landscaping and feeding the birds that traveled to his backyard. He most enjoyed “his happy place” at our shared home in the Isle of Palms, SC.
Scott will be remembered for his integrity, loyalty and dedication to his faith, family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Denise Zinnel Ruby of Greer, SC; his children, Michael Scott Ruby of Greenville, SC and Monica Ruby Burns with her husband, Michael Burns and grandchildren Brendan and Emily of Prosper, TX; his sister, Patty Ruby Lee of Fresno, CA; and his “sister” (sister-in-law) and “brother” (brother-in-law) Colette and Brian Kirste of Boise, ID; and his loving nieces, nephews, cousins and long-time friends, “The Boys”. He is preceded in death by his parents, Florence Berg Ruby and Pete Ruby of Fresno, CA.
A “Remembering Scott” receiving reception will be held at Thornblade Club on February 5, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The memorial and internment service will be held on February 6, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Messiah Lutheran Church in Mauldin. The service will be broadcast live on the Messiah Lutheran Church public Facebook page as well as their YouTube channel, Messiah Lutheran Church Mauldin. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Scott’s memory to the Messiah Lutheran Church “landscape project” or Augustine Literacy Project of the Upstate.
