

Sylvia Capers Alexander Crosby, 76, wife of Dr. William O. Crosby III, died peacefully in Jesus on March 29, 2024. She was born October 25, 1947, in Batesburg, SC, to the late Mary Abbott and Calbraith Capers Alexander. She was valedictorian of her class at Batesburg-Leesville High School and graduated with honors in library science from Columbia College. She was an elementary and high school librarian in Charleston and in Greenville, SC.
Sylvia was a loving wife and mother to her two daughters. Since suffering a severe stroke in 2008, she resided at National Health Care in Greenville, SC, where she made many friends, enjoyed the activities, and received excellent care there until the time of her death. Sylvia was resilient and kept her joyful, outgoing spirit throughout her life. She especially enjoyed singing and had a lively sense of humor. She enjoyed regular visits from church members and pastors while at NHC, as well as daily visits from her faithful husband.
Sylvia was a long-time member of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in Greenville, SC, where she was active in a number of church functions before her stroke. She is survived by her loving husband, daughter Sarah Horn (Brian), daughter Grace Jones (Josh), and five grandchildren: Adeline, Ellis, and Margaret Horn and Andy and Ava Jones. She was preceded in death by sisters Mary Frances Alexander Crosby, Katherine Virginia Alexander Mims, and Velmah Alexander Price.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at 2:00 PM at the Greenville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church with visitation at 1:00 PM. The burial service will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at 3:00 PM at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
