Thelma Adams, 84, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 3, 2021, holding the hand of her daughter, Kathy Adams. The daughter of Grady T. and Sue Ellen Hembree Cagle, Thelma was born on July 26, 1936. She was a graduate of Greenville Senior High School.
Thelma retired from BellSouth after a distinguished career of 28 years, winning numerous customer-service awards. She then joined the Human Resources staff at Greenville County School District for an additional 7 years. Organized, efficient, and always ready to go the extra mile, her motto was “always do for the customer what he would do for himself if he could.”
Thelma was a rabid fan of the Georgia Bulldogs and rarely missed a home game. She was a member of Berea First Baptist Church and an alto in the choir’s annual Living Christmas Tree. A talented pianist, she played and sang at Morgan Memorial Baptist Church in her youth and later at retirement homes as a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. She ardently supported the Greenville Little Theatre. An avid reader and traveler, she relished her adventures exploring the world with Kathy.
In addition to Kathy, Thelma is survived by her cousin Danny Maynard of Greenville and his family and her nephews Adam and Keary Norman of Georgia and their families. Kathy is especially grateful to Thelma’s dearest friend, Dianne Strandemo, for her tireless care and devotion during Thelma’s final days and for the loving comfort provided by Brenda Carter of Griswold Home Care and Becky Davis and Linda Thompson of Homestead Hospice.
