Born in Geneva, IL, he was the son of Rev. Kenneth H. Schroer and Anita C. Schroer (née Berning). He attended South Bend Washington High School and graduated from Rose Hulman Institute of Technology in 1976 with a BS in Mathematics and Computer Science. He worked with computers his entire career under various titles such as Software Engineer and Program Designer. He was well versed in computer systems and programming, and could be relied upon to understand older programs due to his long term experience with computer technology. He was a longtime member of First Lutheran Church of Greenwich, and later St. Paul Lutheran Church of Greenwich.
In his younger days, he loved to go hiking. Some of his favorite places to hike were Bushkill Falls, The Delaware Water Gap, and the Poconos in PA, and especially Kent Falls in CT. He also loved lying on the beach doing nothing but soaking up the sun, playing mini golf with his daughter, and picking apples at Bishops Orchard every fall. He looked forward to trips to Indiana every summer and Christmas to visit with family, though his wife did most of the driving. He enjoyed watching movies and TV shows, especially action and sci-fi, and was a diehard Star Trek fan. He was intelligent, kind, and quiet, but if you prompted him with the right topic you could get him into a good conversation. He was also ready, willing, and able to mow any lawn that needed mowing.
He is survived by his daughter Sarah E. Schroer, as well as his sister Lisa Wesley and his brother Nathan Schroer. He was predeceased by his wife Cynthia Schroer, his brothers Timothy and Peter Schroer, and his parents.
A viewing will be held at Leo P. Gallagher Funeral Home in Greenwich on Monday April 13th from 4-8pm. A service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Greenwich on Tuesday April 14th at 11am.
