Eberhard Hans Guenther “Eb”, 73, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2016 at Regional Hospice in Danbury, Connecticut, with his former wife and lifelong friend, Noreen Agri by his side. Eb was born in Eger, Germany on February 25, 1943 and moved to the United States with his family at the age of ten. His mother, Charlotte Anneliese, and father, Paul, settled in Mamaroneck with Eb and his older brother, Lutz, and older sister, Lenore.
After graduating from Rye Neck High School he immediately joined the U.S Navy where he spent fours years in Italy. He returned to New York and worked for many years in the hospitality industry, until he finally fulfilled his dream to leave the cold weather and move to sunny Florida. He lived in Naples, FL for the last 20 years, during which time he continued to enjoy his own residential painting business and also worked at the Naples Daily News. Eb valued his time in the Navy and was a devoted Veterans supporter, up until the time of his death. He was an avid reader and loved studying all areas of history. Golf and cooking were two other pastime favorites. Even though he lived alone for most of his life, he was known to cook extravagant meals. His neighbor friends often enjoyed his creations which he happily delivered, even recently when his health was failing. Eb is survived by his daughter and son-in law, Jennifer and Philip Zulli, and his two young grandchildren, Macklin and Cailin. He is also survived by his former wife and devoted friend, Noreen Agri; his brother and sister in law Lutz and Ellen Guenther, nephews and niece Peter Guenther, Randy Guenther, Greg Guenther, and Susan Bylatis and their families; also by his nephew Stephen Kiep and his family. He was predeceased by his beloved sister, Lenore Kiep, his brother in law Werner Kiep and their son Michael Kiep.
Eb will be waked on Thursday August 18, from 4-7 at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, in Greenwich.
