
Schneider, Elizabeth (Beth) Christine, née Simpson born in Hoopeston, Illinois, May 18, 1925, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2016 in Greenwich, CT. She was the only child of Ralph and Claire Simpson. Beth graduated from Purdue University where she became a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She was active in the Fairfield County Chapter. She married John (Jack) Schneider in 1951 and they lived in Chicago, Philadelphia, Old Saybrook, and Greenwich, CT. She enjoyed doing needlepoint, gardening, and was an avid miniaturist. She was proud to display her rooms and houses in the bi-annual Christmas miniature exhibits at the Bruce Museum. For years, she was active at Christ Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and volunteered on the Alter Guild. Beth also volunteered at the Rehabilitation Center of Southeastern Fairfield County where she served on the Board and was instrumental in creating the Pegasus riding program for handicapped children and the therapy horticulture program. Beth is survived by her husband of 65 years, and her three children and their spouses, Rick and Carol Schneider, Bill and Colleen Schneider, and Lisa and Kevin Thornton; and her six grandchildren, Tim and Brian Thornton, Jack, Peter, Leila, and Nina Schneider. She enjoyed spending time in the Bahamas, especially the island of Eleuthera, where she and her family vacationed. A memorial service is planned for Saturday February 27, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Church, 254 East Putnam Avenue, Greenwich, CT 06830.
