Janet Frances Maroney Connolly, cherished sister, mother, and grandmother, passed away in Greenwich, CT, on December 31st, 2024, after a prolonged illness. Born in Brooklyn on January 31st, 1939, she was the second child of Mary and Vincent Maroney. Janet was educated at Saint Saviour Catholic Academy in Brooklyn, and the College of New Rochelle, earning her Ph.D. in English literature from Columbia University in 1966.
In 1963, she married Leonard Connolly, and together they raised four daughters on Long Island, first in Glen Cove and later in Lattingtown Harbor. Janet earned her JD from Hofstra University in 1980 and practiced law at Goldberg and Connolly in Rockville Center until her retirement in 2007.
Janet dedicated over thirty years to serving the Town of Lattingtown, resigning as a Trustee in 2019. She and Len were long-time members of the Beaver Dam Winter Sports Club and treasured their summers at the beach with family and friends, especially their grandchildren. Following Len's death in 2009, Janet traveled extensively and volunteered with Nassau NOW and the Bar Association of Nassau County. An avid bridge player and ballroom dancer, she enjoyed these activities both on Long Island and in Manhattan, where she moved in 2017. As her health declined, she relocated to Greenwich, CT, to be closer to her family.
Janet is survived by her siblings, Bill Maroney, Vincent Maroney, and Frances Magenheimer, and her four daughters, Deirdre Norton, Ursula Connolly, Janet Gyr, and Angela Lodge, along with ten grandchildren. Her joie de vivre, kindness, and generosity will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.
