Born in Los Angeles, California, on February 3, 1933, Jean was the daughter of the late Robert and Elsie McCoy. Jean graduated from Pomona College in 1956. She lived an exciting and adventurous life, settling down to marry her devoted husband Richard “Dick” Bergstresser only after she had seen the world and considered all her options.
During her long and wonderful marriage to Dick, a former First Selectman of Greenwich, Jean became very active in the community, heading up the Treasure Trove at Round Hill Community Church, working on several improvements to the Stanwich Club, and volunteering for any worthy cause. Dick and Jean were avid tennis players, skiers, bikers, and loved to travel with friends. Jean was a passionate advocate for animals – especially her own cats and dogs – women’s rights, and democratic causes.
Jean was beloved by her late husband Dick and her many devoted friends in and around Greenwich. She is survived by her nieces Barbara and Ellen Goff and her nephews Scott and Robert Hirsch, Christopher and Scott Bergstresser, and John and Robert Goff.
Jean’s ashes will be interred at Round Hill Community Church. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
