June Langran Crabtree passed peacefully in her sleep October 26th, 2014 after surviving three courageous episodes of Breast Cancer over thirty years. An only child of Harold and Mae Langran of Valhalla, New York, she was born on Valentine’s Day 1928. Graduating from Villa Maria Academy, Bronx, NY in 1946, June was awarded the Latin Medal. Her graduation from The College of New Rochelle in 1950 led to a promising career at Young and Rubicam. When asked to be photographed as a model, her father balked, allowing only her beautiful hands to be viewed, which she proudly positioned for Krispy Krackers.
June was first married in 1952 and was blessed with a daughter, Marilyn June Peek Juan and son Walter DeForest Peek. In 1963 June was remarried to Robert Edward Crabtree, Sr., “inheriting” three more children, Margaret Joanne “Muffy” Crabtree Lyster, Constance Anne “Pinky” Crabtree Markey and Joseph Clark Crabtree. “Be fruitful and multiply” had new Biblical meaning as she was blessed with two more boys, Robert Edward Crabtree, Jr., and Michael Riordan Crabtree. Her life was full and joyful with her whole and extended family.
June was not a natural athlete but a determined competitor in her approach to sports and life.
Her feats in golf were breaking 90 and scoring a hole-in-one. She skied for many years at Stratton Mtn., VT with her family and friends. She had been a member of NYAC, Winged Foot, Wykagyl Country Club, Burning Tree Country Club, Stanwich Club, Stratton Mtn. Club, John’s Island Club, Windsor Club, Red Stick and Quail Valley River Club. She enjoyed most her friendly competition with her Bridge Buddies who kept her table whole until she departed. June was admired by all her peers, especially by classmate Mary Higgins Clark who dedicated one of her best selling mysteries to June.
June was predeceased by Robert, husband of forty-two years, two sons, Michael and Joseph, and grandson Joseph III. She is survived by her cousin Father Richard Adams, children Margaret, Marilyn, Constance, Walter, and Robert, fourteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
More than anything June loved her family and she built a beautiful life around them. Calling hours will be at Leo P. Gallagher & Son, 31 Arch St. Greenwich, CT 06830, Friday Oct. 31, 2014 from 3-6pm and a Mass on Saturday November 1, at 10am at St. Michael Church, 469 North St., Greenwich, CT 06830.
