Pierangelo passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at Greenwich Hospital, with his daughters Daniela, Lucia and Francesca by his side.
Born on August 22, 1956 in Brescia, Italy, Pierangelo was the son of the late Paolo and Adele. His cherished sister Fausta and nephew Paolo continue to live in his hometown.
Pierangelo moved to London aged 20, beginning his successful career as a restaurateur, running prominent restaurants across the city for 18 years. It was there he married Susan, the mother of his daughters Maria, Daniela, Lucia and Francesca, later proudly becoming a devoted grandfather to Isabella, Rosa, Cara, Adelina, and Luca.
He called Greenwich home for the last 30 years, building a wonderful life here. He touched the hearts of many in the community with his zest for life and many passions. Master chef, avid fisherman, keen soccer fan and formidable tennis player, he made lifelong friends on and off the court, in the restaurant and beyond.
Many will fondly remember him from his years at Applausi Osteria in Old Greenwich, before he fulfilled his ambition of opening his own restaurant, Pierangelo on Greenwich Avenue. His warmth and charm continued to shine at Louie’s Restaurant, where he made lasting impressions on everyone he met.
Pierangelo had an extraordinary gift of connecting with people. His warm smile, infectious laugh, cheeky sense of humour and love of sharing a meal, drink or funny story made him a cherished friend to many. He treated everyone like family and considered them as such. As a mentor and father figure to those he worked with, he took great joy in sharing his expertise and love for the restaurant business.
His passion for life and tenacity was evident in everything he did, including his brave battle with lung cancer. Pierangelo faced his illness with courage, always maintaining his sense of humor and bringing joy to those around him, even in his final days. He is now at peace, and his memory will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration to those who knew and loved him.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to those who provided unwavering support, compassionate care, and comfort to Pierangelo during his illness, especially Paulina, Ron, Francesco, Geralyn, Tom, his dedicated oncology team at Dr. Beverly Drucker's office, and the doctors, nurses, and patient care technicians who attended to him during his time at Greenwich Hospital.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects on Thursday, August 22 from 5-8 pm, followed by a celebration of Pierangelo’s life at 10am on Friday, August 23 at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 31 Arch Street, Greenwich CT.
