

Reynal de St Michel (Mike) Thébaud, 79, of Greenwich, Connecticut died peacefully on 5 May 2012 after an intermittent illness. He was born on 10 March 1933 in White Plains, New York, to Reynal de St Michel Thébaud, Sr. and Alice Beatrice Thébaud.
Mr. Thébaud graduated from Deerfield Academy in 1951 and Yale University in 1955. While at Yale he was a member of the ROTC. Upon graduation he was commissioned in the U.S. Air Force and served for two years in Rome, NY. He then joined IBM in 1958 and worked there for 33 years until his retirement in 1991.
He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Sally Corlette Thébaud and his three daughters, CAPT Cindy Thébaud, USN, currently residing in Alexandria, VA; Beth Thébaud of Wilson, WY and Ander Thébaud of Mt. Desert, ME, and his brother Charles G. Thébaud of Cummaquid, MA.
Throughout his life Mike was an avid sailor as a member of American Yacht Club in Rye, NY and Nantucket Yacht Club. His devotion to sailing led him to adventures in both racing and cruising from Long Island Sound to as far east as Louisburg, Nova Scotia as well as in the Caribbean and Tahiti.
Mike was Commodore of American Yacht Club from 1987-88. He was also involved with Race Committee, trap shooting, the newsletter and the bridge group at AYC. He won many trophies in both sailing and trap.
Mike enjoyed vacationing in Nantucket where he maintained a family tradition, carried on from the late nineteenth century, of visiting the island annually. Mike missed only three summers on the island. His other interests included traveling, gardening, biking, skiing, duck hunting and decoy-collecting, fishing and back-yard birding.
Mike was also a member of the Society of Colonial Wars, Sons of the Revolution in the State of New York, Saint Nicholas Society, The Pell Family Association and Mystic Seaport Pilots.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Michael Church, 469 North St, Greenwich on Friday, May 11, 2012 at 1:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers memorial gifts should be made to the Greenwich Land Trust or the Nantucket Conservation Foundation.
