

Shaker A. Khayatt, 76, of New York City, passed away on June 10, 2012, surrounded by loved ones. Shaker is preceded in death by his parents Albert and Winifred Khayatt. He is survived by his wife, Edith Khayatt, by his children Samiha Khayatt (Thomas Blailock), Djenan Akel (Tarek Akel), Shaker A. Khayatt Jr. (Zoe Khayatt), and Shafika Khayatt, by his grandchildren, Zain, Aliaa and Mufleh Akel, and George, Daphne and Theodora Khayatt, by his sister, Samiha Melas, and by his nephew, George Melas. Shaker arrived in the United States from Egypt in 1957, received a Masters degree from MIT in 1959, and was a member of the Harvard Business School class of 1963. He loved to cook and entertain, enjoyed museums and theater, and was enamored of all things New York. Most of all, he loved to be surrounded by family and friends. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 14, at 10:30am at the Stanwich Congregational Church, 202 Taconic Road, Greenwich, CT 06831. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Hands Along the Nile Development Services, Inc.,1601 N. Kent Street, Suite 1014, Arlington, VA 22209 or to the American Heart Association.
