Alicia Shores, 84, of Greenwood, Arkansas passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2022 in a Fort Smith hospital. She was a Mexican immigrant who met her husband, Albert Odell Shores in 1968 in Mexico City. They flew to America in 1970, got married and became naturalized citizens a few years later. She always said that other than getting married and having kids, that becoming an American citizen was one of her most proud moments in life.
She initially worked as an interpreter for a General at Fort Chaffee for a few years, speaking seven different languages, before having children and taking a pause in life. Later she went to work for Therma-Tru, where she retired after 25 years and enjoyed the rest of her days with her loving husband and children. She enjoyed life and was always full of energy. She was a very strong Christian woman and her faith guided her throughout her life. She enjoyed music, cooking and taking long drives with her husband. She enjoyed taking vacation trips with her family to visit her relatives in Mexico, and those trips would quite often end up in Acapulco or some other beautiful undisturbed oceanfront. After her husband passed away, she took turns living with her children, where she was taken care of like a queen that she was. She will be greatly missed by her children and by her loved ones.
The family will be having a memorial service 11 a.m. Friday, March 11 at Freedom Free Will Baptist Church in Alma with inurnment at Gregory Cemetery at a later date. Cremation was under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
She is survived by three sons, Rudolpho Shores and wife, Melissa of Fort Smith, Jose Ramon Shores and wife, Gina of Greenwood and Christopher Damon Shores and wife, Nancy of Van Buren; one daughter, Xalli Arieta and husband, Urbano of Mexico City, Mexico; one brother, George Olvera of Mexico City, Mexico; one sister, Guillermina Aguilar of Mexico City, Mexico; nine grandchildren, Isabella Shores, Gabrielle Shores, Rebecca Shores, Jaden Shores, Adam Shores, Evan Shores, David Arieta, Paro Arieta and Alicia Arieta and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Odell Shores.
