

Darrell Ray Newton, 83, of Hackett, Arkansas passed away Friday, February 17, 2017 in a Fort Smith hospital. He was retired from Whirlpool, former Mayor of the City of Hackett for 16 years, member of Hackett First Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, February 21 at Hackett First Baptist Church with burial at Mountain View Cemetery under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood. Viewing will be Monday from 2 – 8 p.m. at Hackett First Baptist Church, where the family will receive friends from 5 – 7 p.m.
He is survived by his wife, Nellie Newton; two sons, Terry Newton and wife, Glenda of Poteau and Jerry Newton and wife, Jaquetta of Hackett; one daughter, Diana William of Pocola; two brothers, J.L. Newton of Fort Smith and Paul Wayne Newton and wife, Penny of Greenwood; two sisters, Alice Jane Terry of Russellville and Barbara Crouch of Fort Smith; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Anthony Bailey, Ronnie McBride, Eric White and Danny McBride
Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Durham and Darrell Spells
