Frank Augustian Morgan, III, 94 years old (3 months shy of being 95), of Greenwood, Arkansas passed away Friday, May 17, 2024 in his home, eight weeks after being diagnosed with acute leukemia. He was born August 6, 1929 in Palatka, Florida to Frank and Eddie Mae Morgan. He graduated from Georgia Tech University with a master’s degree in chemical and petroleum engineering and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, retired from Exxon Mobile and a member of Greenwood First Baptist Church. He lived in New Orleans for 46 years, prior to moving to Greenwood twelve years ago. He was an avid New Orleans Saints fan. He had a passion for fishing and always kept his freezer stocked with fresh trout filets. He took great pride in his flower garden and growing tomatoes and various vegetables every year.
Frank was married to Bobbie for 53 years. After 2 weeks of dating, they married. Frank knew in that very short time, he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Bobbie Jean, his “Georgia Peach”. They moved to New Orleans in 1966 where Bobbie soon mastered the art of Cajun cooking which Frank loved.
Frank loved Arkansas but did miss going to the Saints games and his Cajun food. Frank was an avid reader. During Covid in 2020, since the library was closed, he quickly learned to listen to books on his IPad which were Bluetoothed through his hearing aids. As much as he missed actually reading the books, it was a Godsend to have audiobooks because shortly after Covid, he lost his vision to Macular Degeneration Over the last 3 years, he has listened to over 2000 books.
Frank was a very devoted and loving father to Michele. Being an only child, she was always Daddy’s girl. He moved to Greenwood 12 years ago after his wife passed away. He lived with Michele but in his own house they built for him behind their home. He and Michele were inseparable up until the very end.
His two grandsons, Austin and Travis, became his world after they were born. Their father left when they were 11 and 7, never to be seen again. Frank stepped in and very easily assumed the role of their dad. He and Bobbie deserve all the credit for the outstanding young men they have become. He taught them life lessons, the importance of worshipping God and leaning on their faith during troubled times. He shared his love of fishing with them, cheered them on at all their football and baseball games and took them on many wonderful cruises over the years. His first great grandson, Brooks Morgan Green, was born 2 ½ years ago and he became the light of Frank’s life. He was so proud when he was given his name, Morgan, as his middle name. Brooks always made his Papa laugh which made him his favorite visitor during his last weeks.
He is survived by his daughter, Michele Morgan Buckley (Douglas) of Greenwood, two grandsons, Austin Green (Chris) of Dallas, TX and Travis Green (Lauren) of Springdale and one great grandson, Brooks Morgan Green. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Bobbie Jean Morgan.
Funeral service will be at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, May 30 at Greenwood First Baptist Church and burial with military honors will be immediately following the service at the Fort Smith National Cemetery. All are welcome to join the family at the graveside service.
Pallbearers will be Austin Green, Travis Green, Jerry Efurd, Ryan Borst, Bryan Loyd and Jobey Adair. Honorary pallbearers will be Granville Presson’s Life Group.
The family would like to thank Heart of Hospice for their excellent care and helping Michele navigate her way in having her dad in her home with her until the end. A special thank you to Allison Delp, Hospice Nursing Assistant, for her daily kind and loving care of Frank. She always managed to put a smile on his face, even when no one else could. Michele would also like to thank her personal team of 24/7 caregivers, Gail Seamster, Teresa Wright, Amanda LaRue and Darla McAlister for their tremendous care of Frank from beginning to end. They were dedicated to making sure his last weeks would be the best they could possibly be despite his illness. They not only cared for his physical needs, but more importantly, loved him as though he was their dad. Frank called them his “new family”. Thank you to the many friends that visited Frank, especially his longtime friend, Jerry Efurd, who he fondly called “Cowboy Jerry” that visited him countless times during the 8 weeks. Those visits gave him so much joy and happiness, even when he was too weary to talk. Lastly, a very special thank you to Michele’s dear friend, Ginger Charles, who spent countless hours with her and her dad up until the very end. No matter the time of day or night, she was there to give comfort, love, endless support and anything else that was needed. Frank was truly loved by all that knew him.
