James Paul Thames, 87, of Cave Springs, Arkansas passed away Friday, March 14, 2025 in Rogers, Arkansas. He was born December 10, 1937 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to Melvin Winford and Ruth Pauline (Tankersley) Thames. He was retired from Westinghouse Electric, member of Greenwood First Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a faithful Christian and a devout Southern Baptist, he loved going to Sunday School and social gatherings with his Life Group. He enjoyed watching the Greenwood Bulldogs, Arkansas Razorbacks, Texas Longhorns and the Houston Astros, Rockets and Texans.
He is survived by two sons, Douglas Thames and Shawn Thames; a daughter-in-law, Eneldia Berlanga-Thames; granddaughter, Shara Thames Dorsey; one great grandchild, Maximus Charles Dorsey; one brother, Charles Melvin Thames and wife, Maureen; one sister, Ruth Ann Dearness; one sister-in-law, Karen Farrar and husband, John and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Carolyn Thames, two brothers, Harold Thames and Donald Thames and one great grandson, Magnus Charles Dorsey.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Monday, March 24 at Jenny Lind First Baptist Church with burial at Liberty Cemetery in Greenwood under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood. Viewing will be Sunday from 2 – 5 p.m. at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 2 – 3 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Dan Thames, Kenneth Thames, Don Young, Toby Brasher, Derek Williams and Donald Thames.
