Josephine “Josie” Carter passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family and went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 22, 2025, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, at the age of 66. Josie was born on May 1, 1958 at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas to Jose and Rosario Bunda. Josie worked for the State of Arkansas her entire career and lived in the Greenwood area her entire adult life.
Josie enjoyed trips with her husband, outdoor walks, hiking, and being a grandma. Josie also enjoyed serving her Lord at First Baptist Church in Greenwood, where she participated in the widows ministry, Operation Christmas Child, and the funeral ministry. Josie also enjoyed reading, attending bible studies, attending the symphony, and cooking amazing meals for her family and friends.
Josie was preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Rosario Bunda and brothers, Jose Bunda Jr. and Angelito Bunda. Josie is survived by her husband, Glen “Dewayne” Carter; her son, Aaron Carter and wife, Kayla; grandson, Oliver; her siblings, Rodolfo Bunda and wife, Hollie of Georgia, Rosauro Bunda and wife, Ruth of Washington, Edna Campbell and husband, Terry of Greenwood and Phillip Bunda and wife, Karen of Lavaca and numerous nephews and nieces.
Special thanks to Fort Smith Mercy ICU, who treated Josie in her final days with kindness, care, and compassion.
A celebration of life service will be 10 a.m., Thursday, February 27 at Greenwood First Baptist Church with visitation 1 hour prior and 1 hour following the service. Arrangements are under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
