Lt. Col Randall Joe Looper was called back to the presence of our Heavenly Father on January 5, 2025. Randy was born on April 29, 1962. He is survived by the love of his life, Donna Looper, of 37 years, his dad, Warren (Nancy) Looper Jr. and mom, Nina Looper, both of Greenwood. He leaves behind three children, Meagan (Eric) Van Herpen, son, Brandon (Bicole) Looper and son, Denver (Chrystal) Robison. Randy is survived by his seven siblings, Gary (Kathy) Looper, Kendall (Julie) Looper, Amy (Steven) Pitts, Alexis (Joseph) Mahan, Andrea (Aaron) Jones, Lindsey (Rick) Mott and Travis Hester. He had many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Randy’s family was his whole world, and he dedicated his life to providing everything they could ever dream of. He was a devoted and loyal husband who loved his wife. He loved his children; daughter Meagan (his little girl) of Greenwood, son Brandon (his loving first born) of Atlanta, and son Denver (his right hand helper) of Greenwood. His grandchildren brought such joy to his life, Noah, Avah, Sarah, Logan, and Dax Robison and Reed Van Herpen who typed (Reed loves Grandpa he is the best ever.) on the screen as this was being written. Randy’s family viewed him as a superman. He could do anything and if he put his mind to it, he was going to make it happen. Often you would hear, “Randy and his big ideas”, but he loved a challenge and would make those big ideas happen. That is just how he lived. This most beautifully would be seen in his huge gardens he built, the many family meals he cooked, the items he built, and as equally important his dream shed that was finished just before his passing.
Randy’s eternal and relentless love blessed his family as he always pushed to provide every joy and opportunity for them. It would be often you might receive a text from him saying, “If I grew a garden, would your family benefit from this and would you come get what you want or need?” or “I bought a beef cow, come get what you want from my freezer.” He loved his family and always wanted each and every one of them to be happy and healthy.
Randy and Donna together embraced the unexpected with unwavering faith and determination to find the beauty in life.
He was a faithful son who loved his Mom and Dad. He filled their world with knowledge, pride, and joy. His dad was his hero and he made every effort to follow in his footsteps and loved him immensely. Randy loved his mom and singing with her and his siblings, alongside her at the piano, was a treasured memory of his. He was a loving brother. As the oldest, he was always the protector and one his siblings looked up to. Randy, quietly and humbly, loved and protected all of his family.
His faith was very important to him. You could hear him say, “I love you and I love Jesus.” We can only imagine him shouting for joy in the presence of our Savior.
He accomplished many achievements in his life. He was a Lt. Colonel in the 188th Arkansas Air National Guard. He started out as ammunitions loader, and after going to officer candidate school, rose to the rank of Lt. Colonel. He retired after 21 years. For his career, he also worked and retired, after 20 years, at Nationwide Insurance as a Claims Adjuster and Catastrophe Coordinator for four states, including running the team for Hurricane Katrina.
Randy was a wonderful son, husband, father, sibling, and Grandpa and will be missed greatly.
