Born on August 27, 1950, in Hanford, California, Calvin was the eldest of twelve children born to Calvin Kenneth Hendrix and Pauline (Bennett) Hendrix. He graduated from Baldwin Park High School and proudly served in the U.S. Army for over eight years, earning an honorable discharge.
While stationed in Alabama in 1970, Calvin met the love of his life, Esmeralda Carpio. The two married in 1971 and soon settled in Oregon, where they built a life and raised their family together.
Calvin was widely known for his mechanical talents, which he honed during his military service and continued to use throughout his life, well into retirement. He had a passion for fishing, working on cars, and spending time outdoors, especially in his yard. For many years, he also brought joy to others by donning the red suit and playing Santa Claus—a role he cherished and one that left a lasting impression on many.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin K. and Pauline Hendrix; his brother, William “Bill” Hendrix; and his daughter, Lisa Joyce Hendrix.
Calvin is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Esmeralda Hendrix; his children, Leslie, Robert, and John; his grandchildren, Carson and Madison Derryberry; and his son-in-law, Eric Derryberry.
A Graveside service with military honors will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery on Friday, June 6th at 1:00pm.
