

Dale was born on May 29, 1931 in Portland to Glenn and Aino Ferrington. He was raised in Springdale and graduated from Corbett High School in 1950. Following graduation, he enlisted in the Oregon Army National Guard and received an honorable discharge for his service. He began his fire service career in 1948 as a volunteer for Multnomah County Fire District #14. On May 9, 1957 he was hired as a professional firefighter for Multnomah County Fire District # 9. Fire District #9 eventually consolidated with Fire District #10 which merged with the City of Portland in 1984. Dale retired on December 31, 1986 as a Battalion Chief for Portland Fire & Rescue.
On February 7, 1952, he married Joretta Marie May in Corbett, OR. They shared 59 wonderful years of marriage. They had three children and moved to Gresham in 1962. Dale was an active member of the East County Wind Walkers for many years and was also a former member of the Masonic Lodge in Troutdale. As a young man, Dale enjoyed camping and boating. He also spent a lot of time at their beach cabin in Garibaldi where he enjoyed fishing, clamming and crabbing. Dale’s hobbies included walking, staying active with his friends at a local fitness center, traveling and spending time with his family.
Dale is survived by his wife, Joretta of Gresham, OR; 3 children: daughter, Louise Jones (Rick) of Clackamas,OR, son, Bob Ferrington (Nancy) of Vancouver, WA , daughter, Glenda Ekblad (Bob) of Gresham; and his brother, Gary Ferrington of Eugene, OR. He also had seven grandchildren: Neely, Cory, Casey, Haylee, Sarah, Kylee, and Charlie and three great grandchildren: Skilor, Philip, and Claire.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, April 14th at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home in Gresham, OR at 11 A.M. Private interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Contributions may be made in memory of Dale to the Oregon Burn Center. Bateman Carroll Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
