Daniel Ralph Brosseau passed away on December 20, 2019. He was 76 years old. Daniel was born on January 1, 1943, in Abilene Texas, to parents Elden Ralph and Velma Eugene Graham Brosseau. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother and sister Roy “Bud” Brosseau, and Norma Jean Ketel. He was survived by his wife Jeanne, his daughters Jenny Huva and Heidi Clifford, his son Jubel Brosseau, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The Brosseau family moved from Texas to Portland Oregon when Daniel was very young. As a child he was an altar boy at a Catholic church, and as a teenager his passion was driving and tinkering with a dizzying assortment of classic cars. After enlisting in the Marine Corps, Daniel was stationed in a number of places, but it was Okinawa Japan which he looked back upon most fondly. After several tours in Vietnam, where he led a team in charge of amphibious tractors, Daniel received a Purple Heart, and retired with the rank of Staff Sergeant. It was Daniel's profound belief that each of us should live a life we love and forge our own paths. For him and his family, the preference was always small towns and rural residences. Over the ensuing decades The Brosseau family lived in several out-of-the-way spots in Oregon, Montana, Washington, and Idaho. Daniel and Jeanne ultimately retired to the quiet town of Cathlamet Washington in 2007.
In his life Daniel worked a vast array of jobs: armed courier, prisoner transport, security guard, bodyguard, blacksmith, farrier, model, engineer of wood-burning and pellet stoves, and co-minister with his wife Jeanne of a Unity Church of Christianity, among many others. In spite of the rough-and-tumble imagery that much of this biography may conjure, Daniel was a gentle soul, quick to laugh, not opposed to a good cry, possessed of a spirit of good humor and was a consummate storyteller. The Brosseau house was always full of music: records on the turntable, and jam-sessions with friends. Daniel loved British mysteries, cats, the poetry of Robert Service, and found inspiration in his library of texts that enriched his deeply-held spiritual beliefs. He also saw Sam Cooke and Little Richard play the Crystal Ballroom. Dan would want you to know that.
He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
