Doris June Johnson

Doris was born June 16, 1925 in Portland, Oregon to Gilbert G. and Hannah Pauline (Hedin) Storaasli. She graduated from Grant High School and attended Pacific Lutheran College for two years, studying business. Doris worked at Diamond Fuel as a secretary and bookkeeper for two years. She married Norman O. Johnson on October 8, 1949 in Portland, Oregon. They resided in Portland, where they were members of Central Lutheran Church. In 1975, they moved to Gresham and in 1977 helped form St. Paul of Damascus Lutheran Church. Doris moved to Sandy one year ago to live closer to family.

Doris and Norman enjoyed travelling and saw most of the United States travelling in their trailer. In their later years, they purchased property near the Nehalem River where they enjoyed spending time and camping. Doris loved the beach combing along the coast. Doris liked playing games: card games, board games and ping pong were among her favorites. She took pleasure in gardening and spending time in her yard, feeding the birds orange peels she caringly chopped into tiny pieces. Doris and Norman were members of the Norse Hall Grieg Lodge and often volunteered at pancake breakfasts. Doris was a wonderful baker, specializing in Lefse, Norwegian flatbread and cookies. Most of all, Doris loved her friends. She was a very social person, always surrounded by friends. Doris had friends she had known since grade school and high school. One group of friends had a potluck once a month, a tradition they carried on for over sixty years.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Norman. She is survived by her sons, W. Bruce Johnson of Portland, OR; Brent Johnson of Sandy, OR; daughters, Karen Stephan of Kodiak, AK; Margo Conradi of Portland, OR; 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
