October 9th 1934 to November 27th 2021
Long time Gresham resident, Connie(Ella Mae) Kohler, 87, died on November, 27th, 2021 in Mt Hood Legacy Hospital from influenza and the hospital's quarantine policies.
Connie was born on October 9, 1934 in Louisville, Kentucky to Louis Francis and Madeline Mary Guinette. Both her parents were of French descent and French was spoke in their home. Connie left home in her teens and had a difficult early life traveling around the country. In 1952, when Connie was 18 she met and married Ralph Albert Kohler in Portland, Oregon. They had two boys, in 1953 and 1955. In 1959, the family moved to a small farm on West slope of Walters Hill, in SW Gresham. On their farm, they raised almost every kind of livestock and the Kohler family happily lived there for many decades.
Connie was deeply involved in Genealogy and over many years(before the internet) she compiled both sides of the family's history going back several generations. She was an accomplished artist and could do almost anything. She enjoyed needle point, quilting and calligraphy. Antiques were a lifelong passion and she collected everything from furniture to dolls to cut glass. In fact, Connie amassed so many antiques, in the 1990's, she opened an antique store on Stark Street, in Gresham.
Starting in the 1960's, along with her husband Ralph, they remodeled houses on the Eastside, operated fencing company in Gresham, owned a real estate brokerage in Gresham and had an alfalfa farm on the Snake River in Ontario, Oregon. Connie was a hands-on type of person and had no fear with it came to taking on new adventures. Although she had many interests, by far she was the happiest being a homemaker and working on the family farm in SW Gresham.
Connie is survived by her two sons and their spouses, Clifford Louis Kohler and his wife Suzy Kohler of Gresham and Stephen Albert and his wife Lori Kohler of Gresham; and her grandsons Robbie Herren of Gresham, Justin and his wife Sarah Kohler and four great Grandchildren, Caitlin, James, William and Henry Kohler, of Edmonds, Washington;
She is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph A Kohler, her sister Rose Ifla and Brothers Donny and Louie Guinette of Vancouver, Washington.
A Memorial Service will be held this spring at Bateman Carroll Funeral Chapel in Gresham.
