

She was born on December 9, 1921 in Goshen, Oregon to Clinton and Lorana Shelley, a pioneer family who were early settlers of Lane County.
Gladys was a graduate of Goshen High School and the University of Oregon. On July 20, 1953, in Eugene, she married Kernal Nels Buhler from Dallas, Oregon. Kernal preceded her in death in 1995. She taught English at Springfield and Roseburg High Schools and Wynn Watts in Portland and was a substitute teacher in the Gresham and Reynolds school districts. As a young woman, Gladys was baptized as a member of the Eugene First Christian Church and later became a member of Mountainview Christian Church in Gresham. Worshipping and faithful service to the Lord guided her life, and even in her final years she was able to sing her favorite hymn, “Great is Thy Faithfulness.” Gladys enjoyed gardening, celebrating all of her family member milestones, sewing, knitting, and needlepoint.
Gladys is survived by her four children and nine grandchildren: Daughters Shelley (and Jim Worlein), Gresham; Kathy (and Steve Toft), Gresham; Julie (and John Southgate), Portland; and son Kernal Cary (and Holly Buhler), Eden Prairie, MN. Grandchildren: Elizabeth Worlein; Mary Worlein; Natalie (and Brendan Murphy) Toft; Elizabeth Toft; Audrey Southgate; Emily Southgate; Jane Southgate; Lauren (and Tom Strand) Buhler; and Kernal Connor Buhler.
Funeral service will be graveside on Monday, February 26th at 1:00 pm at Pleasant Hill Pioneer Cemetary, 84681 Pleasant Lane, Pleasant Hill, OR.
