

Harold “Hal” Freshour passed away September 3, 2012 in Portland. He was born August 30, 1935 in Carbon, Iowa to parents Harold F. and Velma Freshour, the oldest of four. His family moved often, following his father’s work across country; Hal attended 17 schools in the first grade alone. He finished his education in Sandy, Oregon. His first marriage was after high school, to Betty Haven. Together they had two children. A few years later, Hal began work as a Portland Police Officer. He worked out of the East Precinct and received many awards and accommodations. During the course of his duties, Hal was fired at from point blank range, three times, each time, the gun misfired. He retired in 1989 after 25 years and then worked for 14 more as an investigator for the Multnomah County DA before his final retirement in 2003.
Hal married Holly (Huibregtse) and together they had four more children. He loved fishing on the Columbia River, Snake River, and in the ocean. He was also an avid hunter, and enjoyed gardening and sharing the bounty with friends. Hal had a deep love for his family, and bragged about them often.
Hal is survived by his wife, Holly Freshour, of Boring; children Sherry (Patrick) Farrell of Oregon City, Terry (Janis) Freshour of Crooked River Ranch, OR, Kara (Rob) Roland of San Clemente, CA, Annie (Jonathan) Claud of Wheaton, IL, Joe (Shalimar) Freshour of Yuma, AZ, and Jake (Jessica) Freshour of Enterprise, AL; brother Richard Freshour of Gresham, as well as 12 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
